FAQ
Welcome to the questions-too-many-people-ask-all-the-time (FAQ for short). Here there are common questions with answers and links to the relevant pages if you ask a question that is on here you will definitely be made fun of. Lots.
1.What is the link to the wiki?
2. Where do I find info about VIX?
3. Where do I find info about subgroup?
4. Where do I find info about my written project proposal?
5. Where do I find info about my independent project?
6. Will SyBBURE help pay for conference travel?
If you are presenting, then almost certainly yes. If you are not presenting then maybe. Read this page.
7. Should I email you?
There is almost no occasion in which you will be emailing anyone in SyBBURE. We use Slack around here.
8. Who should I ask to get trained on x in Gidhub?
Ask in the #gidhub channel on slack and one of the guardians (or someone else who knows how to use x) will respond.
9. Can I miss days in the summer? I have a sick family vacay I’m trying to plan
In general, no. If you absolutely have to miss, you will need to make up the time before or after the summer session or take reduced pay (prorated for time missed). Please do not miss any of the first or last week of SyBBURE summer, it is a logistical headache to catch people up and it may make us defer you to the fall.
10.Can I take a day off in the summer?
Here is the link with a time off request. You may take up to two personal days during the summer. If your lab takes time off (ex. around July 4th) this won’t count against your days off, but If there are SyBBURE events happening you are expected to be at them regardless of what your lab is doing.
11. When is [X] happening?
We have a google calendar that has everything that is going on with SyBBURE on it. Add it to yours, we will just tell you to look at the calendar if you ask us for dates. See getting started for instructions on adding the calendar. An overview of what is going on in every semester as well as some specific dates and time are at the top of the landing page.
12. What are my options for member status?
Here is the info about going from fellow to member status.
13. Where’s my money / When am I getting paid?
Slack Kyle
14. What is the food is this week?
Only Kyle knows
15. What classes should I take next semester?
Ask your adviser or people with the same major. We don’t know much about this.
16. Do we need to turn in time sheets to prove how much we work.
During the academic year, you will be required to turn in a time sheet every two weeks, in order to get paid. Over the summer, time sheets are not required; you will be paid via stipends and a cost of living allowance.
17. Can I take a class this summer?
Ideally no, but if you really need to (like, to graduate on time) then you should contact team sybbure before April 15th, as we sometimes allow students to take a class and prorate their stipend.
